2024 Sounds of the Season

Repertory Soprano/Alto Choir

Open to all 9th-grade sopranos and altos and upperclassmen not in Varsity or Concert Choir, this year-long course builds vocal skills through diverse music styles. Highlights include three concerts, a Trimester 3 collaboration with Tenor Bass Choir, festivals, and optional ensembles. Join the fun and grow as a musician!

Varsity Choir

Open to all 10th-12th graders, this non-auditioned SATB choir meets daily and explores a variety of music styles. Students perform in concerts, festivals, and performances while growing as singers and musicians through daily rehearsals and skill building. Placement is guided by the choir director. It’s your time to shine and grow as a musician!

2024 ACDA-MN Fall Conference Performance

Unified Music

Music for all! This class is a music making ensemble designed to give all students (general education students and those who benefit from Special Education Services) the opportunity to interact and support one another in a music making environment. Student will collaborate with one another through singing, moving, and playing instruments. Students will have opportunities to participate in performances as well as community based education outings. Unified Music has performed at the 2024 ACDA-MN Fall Conference and will perform at the 2025 MMEA Midwinter Convention in February.

2024 Sounds of the Season

Concert Choir

Our most advanced choral ensemble is open to 11th-12th graders through audition. Emphasis in this choir is on performance and musicianship, as well as vocal technique. Students in this group will study and perform a variety of choral literature. The Concert Choir performs at numerous concerts, contests and festivals. Concert Choir is available for CIS Credit to students who wish to earn college credit. Auditions take place every Spring.

 

Varsity Singers

Varsity Singers is an auditioned SATB ensemble comprised of 10th-12th graders. This ensemble sings a wide range of music, and focuses on chamber choir skills. Auditions are held each year in the Fall. Varsity Singers performs at choir concerts, and Solo/Ensemble. They rehearse for about two hours per week. All members of this ensemble must be enrolled in Varsity Choir.

Treble Singers

Treble Singers is an auditioned ensemble comprised of Soprano and Alto voices in 10th-12th grade. This ensemble sings a wide range of music from classic choral literature and modern pop to vocal jazz. Auditions are held each year in the spring to build the roster for the following school year. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. Treble Singers has an active performance schedule at BHS and in the community. All members of this ensemble must also be enrolled in Varsity Choir or Concert Choir.

BHS Singers

 BHS Singers is a highly selective mixed SATB ensemble comprised of 11th and 12th grade singers. This ensemble sings a wider range of music from classic choral literature and modern pop to vocal jazz. Auditions are held each year in the spring to build the roster for the following school year. Rehearsals are Mondays from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm. BHS Singers enjoys an active performance schedule at BHS and in the community. All members of this ensemble must also be enrolled in Concert Choir.

Repertory Choir Dress Code

Sopranos and Altos will wear black flats and long black tights and semi-formal concert attire on top beneath their Choir robe.

Tenors and Basses will wear black dress pants with long black dress socks and an undershirt with their Choir robe.

If there is a need of any concert attire items, please let Mr. Carlson-Giving know.

Voice Lessons

Choir students are highly encouraged to take private lessons with a professional. BHS has a variety of ways to connect students with an appropriate teacher. Please contact Mr. Carlson-Giving for more information.

Honor Choirs

All BHS Choir students have the opportunity to be involved in Honor Choirs throughout the school year. A comprehensive list of opportunities is made available in the fall of each school year. Some honor choirs are considered a ‘College Visit’ while others are specific to the kind of music and style of choir.

All-State Choir

Sophomore and Junior students are encouraged to prepare an audition for Minnesota’s highest musical honor; All-State. Mr. Carlson-Giving will guide students through the process in the Spring of each year.
